A mixed technique hanbel with a wonderfully wild streak. It starts predictably enough, with a natural striped blanket. And then the colorful diamonds take over and change everything. In pile with colors only synthetic fiber allows, they run riot in bands across the piece. On one end they are only cobalt, red, and grass green, but they multiply in number and color as they move to the other end. Neon pops, greens get brighter, electric watermelon chimes in. There is organization and intent, rhythm, even symmetry. And the stripes in the lozenges echo those of the tame background. It is challenging and beautiful on its own terms.
