Strong lines and the beauty of age. This was a story of the madder red of Rehamna rugs. But time and use have turned deep red to peach, or rather peaches, which run every shade of orange and change with the light. The red undertone remains so that even in its most worn spots, there is a rosy glow. The strong geometry of not-quite-straight charcoal lines makes an old piece read modern and bold. They are echoed in the dark ground that shows through in areas of low pile and again in the fringe. But here, too, red prevails in one spot of tomato-hued fringe. There are many wonderful imperfections, from visible repairs, to wear, to areas that don’t lie entirely flat. But they add only personality and history to an unusually arty piece.
