The dynamic story of utilitarian art. It was once a stunning traditional piece. The intricate hashed line motif references neighboring Algerian rugs that have long influenced Talsint weaving. In black against heavily abrashed magenta, they speak of an arid mountain landscape. They are arranged in vertical panels, bisected by a heavy line and framed by a key border and sawtooth selvedge in turn, making for an organized, complex rug. Long-used, it has been altered and repaired over time and these changes tell a fuller visual story. The pile has been trimmed to make a unform, velvet texture and expose the deep abrash. And both knots and stitches have been added, bringing in the shock of marigold, lines of turquoise, dots of white cotton, and great detail in grass green. That deep contrast of almost translucent magenta and pure matte green now define the rug. With some wear and signs of age typical of an older piece and alterations that have elevated it to art.
