Shipping

We ship anywhere. Please inquire and we will get you a shipping quote. We ship rugs fully insured which does add to the shipping costs but we do our best to work with reliable shippers that have good rates. International buyers may be responsible for customs duties upon delivery. Please check your country’s customs rates before purchasing.

Returns

We accept full returns, less any shipping/insurance costs, on all rugs within 30 days of purchase as long as they are returned in the same condition they were received. We understand that a rug is a big decision and that it often takes seeing it in a space to know for sure. If you are in the Portland area, we encourage you to take rugs home on approval. If you are not local, we will do our best to describe and show pictures of the rug to help you make a decision. Please ask any questions you might have. We are here to make sure you get a rug you love.

Vintage Nature of Our Rugs

All rugs in our on-line store are vintage. There is little good research on Moroccan rugs and no systematic way of dating them so it is difficult to give specific ages. We refrain from dating the rugs unless we can do so with certainty, which is to say very rarely. In general, most pieces here were woven between 1950 and 2000. The critical distinction between vintage and new rugs is that the vintage pieces were woven for personal use rather than for market and show all the artistry, personality, whimsy, and warmth of folk art. They are utilitarian objects and have been used. We have every rug washed and repaired before it ships from Morocco. However, you should be aware that you are purchasing a vintage item. We will provide all the information we can about condition so you know exactly what you are getting.

Rug Care

These rugs were woven to be used and are in very good vintage condition, but some basic care can make a big difference in how they wear over time.

  • Use a good rug pad, cut to size.
  • Shake the rug out. Often.
  • Rugs can be, and should be, vacuumed, but make sure to turn the brush beat (sometimes called the agitator) off so that it does not pull out the pile.
  • Spot clean by blotting or with shampoo or as you would any animal hair.
  • If you live in an arid climate, you can wash your rug with mild shampoo and lay it in the sun to dry. However, bright sun may cause colors to fade and thick rugs may take a long time to dry.
  • In general, periodic professional cleaning is a good idea but with some good care the rugs should be able to go several years between cleanings.
