A tribal piece in a beautiful palette. The hashed lines common to the region and neighboring Algerian motifs here run loose, almost freehand, morphing into a uniquely Talsint version of filled lozenges. They are graphic in deep brown and grey outlined in cream, and hint at a landscape. Symbols of weaving tools and fibula fill each lozenge, adding ochre, pistachio, and periwinkle to the palette and a deeply personal element to the composition. A male snake running down one side offers protection. Striped flatweave at both ends and a dark selvedge contrast with the earthen pink for something soft and bold, rustic and elegant. In low pile with some uneven wear and a patina consistent with an old, treasured piece.
