An unusually elegant presentation of traditional symbols. The simple palette of undyed cream and chestnut literally highlights the silky local wool. In high pile and the loose weave typical of Azilal rugs, there is a nap to the face such that it appears different from one end than the other. It’s a plush background for lozenges and a row of protective hamza, both enduring Berber symbols, but here in an unusual minimalist composition. Small tufts of orange and green hover just out of reach of the long fingers and a row of violet tufts just above, the only hint of color. Beauty in tradition, restraint, and materials. On cotton warp that comes through in a small braided fringe at both ends.
