A substantial sleeping rug of unusual elegance. It has taken common symbols—the lozenge and the cross or birds feet—and turned them into sophisticated pattern. There is softness in wool and in palette, but there is also a real pulse, a sense of movement and expression. The weaver’s skill shines in the intricate detailing, the entire composition filled with pattern. And yet there is some restraint in the simple palette that lends just the right amount of contrast. In reds, cream, sage, and black, it is elegant but not shy. The reds are particularly complex and run from a deep rose to scarlet. The pattern dissolves just before the edges, leaving it loosely framed in the myriad of reds and a dark selvedge. A very plush piece in full Berber knots. With dark braided fringe at one end.
