Soft as any truly classic Beni Ourain, but with a bold and personal touch. A busy symmetry draws the eye to the middle lozenges which hold a male figure and female X. This couple reign over a beautiful sleeping rug. Large irregular hashed lozenges hold small protective and fertility symbols. The wool is plush, in buttery Berber knots. The dark brown and grey of the motif fades to a shadow at one end, lending translucence and a lighter touch. There is an overall freedom to the piece, even in its balance, but the strong borders assert some order. Checkerboard and a lozenge chain run down one side, chevrons down the other. Even the most orderly elements insist on variety. With a thin read stitched finish and small fringe on one end and one bright yellow signature knot.
