Rehamna Novel 9'6" by 5'7"
A sophisticated example packed with geometry and rhythm. Blood red symbols, most notably hashtags, march in rows and read like script against the undyed chocolate wool. There is minor variation in the brown with one end faded just enough to flicker mauve in the right light. Typical of the region, the weaver has used goat hair for the warp and the selvedges, which adds stiffness and durability. It also, along with some vertical details in the motif, provides a dark frame to the piece and contains some of the business. Other skilled touches include an intricate sawtooth selvedge, accents in cream, and a subtly striped flatweave end. The latter introduces one yellow line, which only accentuates the simple, deep color scheme. The back shows incredible detail, highlighting the fine wool and tight knots.
