Sophisticated with a sense of play. The striking saffron-gold field is animated by a rhythmic charcoal checker motif. It is a color more commonly seen in textiles from the South and while the weaving here is clearly from the Middle Atlas it has certainly been influenced in color and motif by Taznacht styles. Half the rug is slightly more subtle, with very light olive and deep faded red accents. But the red blooms to crimson as the checkers sort themselves out and get in line. Between the loose diagonals and the soft, almost fluffy, pile, it insists on a certain gentleness despite a color that is anything but. Warm and bold, bright and soft, a song of contrasts. With Berber knots, charcoal selvedges, and a braided saffron fringe.
