What a little blue can do. A particularly beautiful Middle Atlas sleeping rug with all the marks of skilled traditional weaving, from the Berber knots to the complex lozenges hidden in plush pile. But the color story here runs cooler as the typical magenta field turns toward purple. What is now grey accents was once a deep grape and there, too, a hint remains even when it occasionally flickers green. A strong black outlines some lozenges, lending gravitas. But old repairs play a little in small tufts of brilliant blue and one secret shock of pink. The back reveals a defined motif, with intricate tribal patterning. Knotted on a dark warp of natural wool that comes through as a braided fringe on one end. A sophisticated work in excellent vintage condition.
