Boujad Bouquet 10'6" by 5'7"
Boujad Bouquet 10'6" by 5'7"
Intricate, overflowing piece. This is a wonderful example of the Boujad weaving that was clearly influenced by the floral Turkish and Persian rugs that passed through the Arab urban centers of Morocco. It shows a large central motif, vertical symmetry, and a typical border. But the Moroccan style takes over with traditional symbols scattered liberally throughout for a blooming motif, a dense composition brimming with detail. The colors, too, are both typical and extraordinary. Like many Arab style Boujads, this combines magenta, pink, green, and orange. But the strong abrash makes for a shifting ground that runs from deep magenta through coral to a faded rose, a complex base of great depth. A dark modified sawtooth selvedge frames the sides. In medium pile of soft velvet wool with a small, braided fringe at one end.
