The luxurious heft of a sleeping rug in saturated color. It is a wonderful example with many of the hallmarks of the region including sawtooth selvedges and striped flatweave at either end. The deep pile was made for warmth in a rugged climate but it is tellingly worn at one end where it was likely used as seating. This reveals its utility and a design element as well, allowing a clear look at the motif. Rows of pattern ripple down the rug in a show of weaving skill. The outlines in white knots show the influence of Algerian rugs in a border region.
