BOR Henna 14'6" by 7'2"
A magnificently huge woolly formal rug. The intricate motif shows clearly on the back but is muted on the front due to a very high snowy pile. The field is all full pile cream, a luxurious backdrop for the dark charcoal and henna orange. There is a lot of contrast, but the softness of the rug and the natural mauve tint of the dark wool harmonize well, leaving the henna a beautiful accent. Two columns of banded filled lozenges divided by a male snake vertebrae symbol set the symmetry. The variations on the male ladder motif that line the sides contribute as well. With protective symbols throughout, all in tight Berber knots, it is clearly the work of an expert weaver. In pristine condition with only a little loss to the full braided fringe. Dated 1980.
