Freehand patterning in a rug both arty and playful. Floral at first glance, rows of repeating crosses march across, green against magenta abrash. As if to stress the ad hoc nature of things, one row turns red. The wool knots are on bright ground and in areas of wear and on the selvedge, its vivid poppy red flashes through. The fringe, too, shows its colors, with warp fibers ranging from goldenrod to turquoise, white, and red. There is charm throughout. Even the loose weave of high pile lends a ruffled effect. Sweet with depth.
